Court grants murder accused bail
02 Sep 2018
Murder accused Simon Kgowe, who was granted conditional bail on August 31 by Gaborone Extension II Magistrate Batho Kgarethwa, will appear again for mention on September 26.
Prosecutor Mr Farayi Mahwite of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) told the court that they had recovered some crucial evidence which they feared the accused could temper with should he be granted bail.
Kgowe, 38, is accused of beheading Elizabeth Kerekang on July 30 at Block 3 in Gaborone and dumping her headless body in Tlokweng.
The victim was buried without a head. Security agencies are still searching for the head as well as two other persons implicated in the gruesome murder.
Mr Mahwite suggested that Kgowe deposit P5 000 with the treasury department, produce two sureties of P5 000 each, surrender his travelling documents to police, report once a week to the investigating officer, not be involved in any violent crime, not interfere with possible state witnesses and come to court as and when requested.
The bail conditions were confirmed by the court and defence attorney Mr Gosiame Digangwa. ENDS
