Masisi sends condolences to UN

19 Aug 2018

It was with profound sadness that I learnt of the untimely demise of the former Secretary-General of the United Nations and Nobel Laureate, Mr. Kofi Atta Annan.

In Kofi Annan, the world has lost an icon whose accomplishments shall be remembered by current and future generations.

He was indeed a quintessential diplomat who dedicated his entire working life towards serving humanity.

His achievements and efforts throughout his illustrious career were an embodiment of the spirit and values of the Charter of the United Nations.

He was relentless in championing inclusive economic and social development, democracy, and human rights for all, as well as international peace and security.

We will always remember and cherish his visit to Botswana in 2002, the first Secretary General of the United Nations to ever visit our country.

On behalf of the Government and people of the Republic of Botswana, and indeed on my own behalf, I wish to convey to you, and through you, to the bereaved family, the staff of the United Nations, and to the Government and the people of the Republic of Ghana, our deepest condolences.
President Mokgweetsi Masisi
