19 Aug 2018

A 25-year-old man appeared before Maun Magistrate Court on August 17 facing a single count of murder.

The suspect, Keabonye Thokojame who worked as a herd boy, is alleged to have murdered and torched the body of his employer, 55-year-old Okganetse Sedombo of Tonota in Maun on August 11.

The charge sheet states that the herdboy had a misunderstanding with the deceased at the cattle post in Samedupi whereupon the suspect started assaulting the deceased and hit him with a gum pole.

It is alleged that the deceased fell down unconscious and the accused person loaded him in the deceased’s vehicle.

He is alleged to have covered the deceased with a blanket and drove to the bush at Disaneng where he poured petrol over the deceased and the vehicle and set both alight.

The accused then fled the scene leaving the deceased and vehicle burnt. Prosecutor Paul Basupi of Botswana Police Service represented the State.

The accused will appear again for mention on August 30. ENDS
