Toddler drowns in sewage drainage

Police in Maunatlala are investigating an incident in which a four-year-old boy of Mokokwana was found dead in a sewage drainage.
Confirming the incident Maunatlala Police Station Commander Superintendent Sello Ntwaagae said the incident happened at a teachers quarters at Maunatlala Junior Secondary School on Sunday afternoon.
Supt. Ntwaagae explained that the deceased together with his mother had visited one of their relatives residing at the teacher’s quarters.
He said his office received a police report on Sunday alleging that a four-year-old boy was missing and that he was last seen playing with other children at the teachers’ quarters in the school.
He said another report came in later that the missing boy was retrieved from a sewage drainage at the teachers’ house where the boy and mother had visited.
Supt Ntwaagae said police rushed to the scene where the boy was discovered and rushed to Palapye Primary Hospital where he was certified dead upon arrival.
He said investigations were ongoing to determine how the boy could have drowned in the drain that was said to had been closed.
Meanwhile, Supt Ntwaagae cautioned parents to always keep a close eye on children and ensure that the environment they played in was safe and secure at all times. ENDS
