UCCSA BIUST walk for charity

 United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA) and Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) held a  joint 10km sponsored walk to raise funds to renovate a house for a less privileged church member.

In an interview, BIUST Vice Chancellor Prof. Otlogetswe Totolo said the intention was to raise money for the completion of renovations of the house of an elderly church member Ms Magatalena Dithoto.

He commended UCCSA Palapye branch for its noble effort of improving their fellow member’s livelihood and giving her a dignified life.

“I am informed that the church does not only preach the Gospel, but also extends love and care to its members and the community. As a nation we encourage this act of caring for others,” he said.

He stated that the renovations of the house began in June as an initiative of the church to give its members a dignified life. He said BIUST as part of the Palapye community also took up the initiative to support UCCSA in its dream to provide shelter for one of its member. 

Prof. Totolo said through the walk, the church managed to raise P11 000, adding that they needed to raise an additional P19 000 to meet the set target of P30 000 to complete the project.

He indicated that BIUST intended to be caring and compassionate towards members of the community, hence the support to UCCSA. He said BIUST could achieve its vision of being an accessible place of higher learning seeking to improve the lives of Batswana and the rest of the world through expertise, research and innovations, if they join hands with Palapye community and the rest of the world.

Prof. Totolo thanked all walkers and made pledges towards raising additional funds to complete the house. 

Pastor Sannel Dlamini of  UCCSA applauded BIUST and his congregation for working together towards improving the life of a fellow citizen.

He also thanked the congregation for identifying the needs of an elderly member and coming up with an initiative of renovate her house. 

For her part, Ms Ditholo appreciated the gift and sent gratitude to her bretheren as well as BIUST. ENDS
