Inmate perishes crossing Boro River

Maun Police are investigating an in incident in which a 29 year-old man who was an inmate at Boro Prison drowned on August 9 while crossing the Boro River.
Senior Superintendent Peter Gochela said the body of the deceased was retrieved on August 10 around 4pm with the help of Botswana Police and Botswana Defence Force scuba divers.
He said the deceased who hailed from Serowe was accompanied by other two inmates and they were on a mission to locate one horse which had gone astray from Boro Camp when the incident happened.
The man reportedly fell from the horse and drowned when the three were crossing the river.
He said the three prisoners were considered trustees and were ,therefore, sent on that mission without a supervisor.
Still in Maun, Senior Supt Gochela said they were investigating an incident in which the remains of a man totally burnt in what seemed like a Hilux vehicle were found on August 11 at Disaneng.
Senior Supt Gochela said the incident was reported at around 1pm on Saturday.
He said police investigations were ongoing to establish the identity of the deceased and what could have happened.
He however said preliminary investigations had shown that the vehicle belonged to a company that dealt with wind screens and window glasses. ENDS
