Boiteko Optician donates glasses to learners

13 Aug 2018

Boiteko Optician has donated 26 eye glasses worth P50 000 to Matshekge Senior Secondary School students who have visual problems.

Speaking at the donation at Matshekge recently, optometrist and director of Boiteko Optician, Mr Thero Mafokate said 26 students out of 240 who tested for visual problems received the glasses as they had severe sight problems.

Mr Mofakate said the glasses were given to students according to the challenges identified.

He noted that for a student to see what was written on the board, one needed to see clearly.

Mr Mafokate said the glasses would help students with visual problems to improve academically as sight problems could hinder their academic performance.

He added that the glasses came at the right time since Form 5s were about to write their final examinations.

He explained that it was important for students to visit eye care clinics or optometrists whenever they recognised symptoms related to eyesight problems.

Mr Mafokate also urged parents to buy children with sight problem glasses, even though they were expensive since it would benefit them in their school performance.

Optometrist, Mr Kitso Disang noted that every parent wished their children a brighter future, saying it was therefore important for parents to take their childrens’ school work seriously.

He urged parents to react quickly whenever they witnessed symptoms related to visual problems on their children.

Mr Disang emphasised that sight problems could eventually lead to blindness. He said diabetes and hypertension were some of the diseases that could lead to sight problems. ENDS
