Vice President Mr Slumber Tsogwane has commended Orapa Junior Secondary School for good and consistent performance despite challenges.

Mr Tsogwane made the commendation at the school on Tuesday during a donation ceremony by Bahumi, a Chines  company.

He implored the students to always endeavour to outperform their predecessors and  secure a bright future, saying education was the beginning of a long journey of life.

The Vice President cautioned students to refrain from any wayward behaviour and focus on their studies.

He admitted that Orapa JSS, like many other schools in Botswana, is in dire need of maintenance, noting also that resources were limited.

Mr Tsogwane said the donation by Bahumi would strengthen Botswana’s ties with China.

Bahumi donated photocopying machines, three laptops for best students and a trophy to the school for being the best junior secondary school.

The director of Bahumi, Mr Yanqing Zhang commended the school management for efforts and support in enhancing the whole personal development of children and grooming them for future leadership.

Mr Yanqin congratulated all the students for their achievements, saying he had no doubt that each one of them would excel in their future roles and contribute to the well-being of society.

He reminded them that the key to success was not to get ahead of other people, but to get ahead of themselves.

He expressed hope that the donation would motivate other schools in the area to do better.

Mr Yanqin said Chinese companies in Botswana, including Bahumi, had donated more than P5million to support various programmes and ideas.

The school head, Ms Kolobetso Seabe said the school’s target was far above the national target and that its 653 students were dedicated and highly motivated.

She revealed that the students were eager to learn and do a lot of research, hence the good performance.

The deputy school head, Ms Pinkie Nkalanga decried shortage of infrastructure, classrooms and a fully functional library. Ends
