Constituency fund bridges gaps

Bojanala ward councilor in Maun West constituency, Mr Luke Motlaleselelo has applauded Constituency Development Fund for benefiting ungazetted settlements where government would normally not provide services.
In an interview with BOPA recently, Mr Motlaleselelo said the ward which lies in the Okavango Delta and covers ungazetted settlements .
He said the fund bridged that gap and provided notable and beneficial developments in some of the settlement under Maun West ward.
Mr Motlaleselelo said the ward had been allocated P1 million to construct six wooden bridges and build a Craft shop at Xaxaba Island so that basket weavers could have permanent structures where they sold their products to tourists.
He added that two bridges were being constructed at Ditshiping, one at Morutsha, two at Quxao and one at Daunara settlements still in the Okavango Delta.
Mr Motlaleselelo said initially the ward was allocated P220, 000 to renovate the cooperatives building at Ditshiping settlement but later changed priority to now construct bridges to improve accessibility in the areas.
He also indicated that their budget was increased to P1 Million where each bridge will be constructed at a cost of P120 000 and commended Okavango Kopano Mokoro Community Trust (OKMCT) which also assisted with the construction of the bridges by providing sand for construction.
He also indicated that five bridges were nearing completion whilst one at Daunara is complete and official handover dates will communicated.
Mr Motlaleselelo said the ward was always affected by flooding and with bridges, movement of residents would be greatly improved. Ends
