Court extends murder accused remand
07 Aug 2018
Jwaneng magistrate Ms Gaone Bagopi has extended remand for four accused men who are facing two counts of rape and murder.
The quartet of Boemo Baaitse, Pako Segogwane, Thuto Sugwasugwane and Tshepo Molwalefe are accused of raping and murdering Kenanao Leduma in Jwaneng on or about June 24, 2018.
During their previous mention, the accused persons had pleaded with the prosecution to speed up investigations citing unhealthy living conditions at prison where they have been remanded since their arrest.
The prosecutor Sub-Inspector Edwin Supang said investigations into the matter were not yet complete and the prosecution was ready to avail the investigating officer to update the court on the progress of the investigations.
However, Ms Bagopi said the case should be scheduled for a later date since the substantive magistrate was not present.
Even though the accused persons agreed to wait for the presiding magistrate, the third accused person, Thuto Sugwasugwane decried lack of cooperation from prison officers regarding his medication.
He told the court that he was currently on medication but the prison officers failed to avail it on time.
The magistrate ordered the prosecution to liaise with prison officials to ensure that the accused person has access to his medication.
The case was adjourned to August 21, 2018.ENDS
