Police investigate two deaths

Maun police are investigating an incident in which a decomposed body of a 22-year-old woman was found in the bush in the out skirt of Moeti ward in Maun.

Officer commanding District NO. 5, Senior Superintendent Peter Gochela confirmed the incident in an interview, stating that the body was found by a passerby on Saturday, who informed the police.

He said they suspected that the woman was murdered as she was reported missing on July 27 only to be found dead.

The deceased was a police volunteer at Kopano Cluster, which patrols Sanyedi ward and  the surroundings.

Senior Supt Gochela said a 27- year-old man from Zoroga who resides in Maun has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The suspect,  who has a pending rape case, was allegedly in a relationship with the deceased.

Senior Superintendent Gochela expressed a concern over  the escalating incidents of murder in his policing area, noting that this year, they had recorded five so far.

He said three of the cases took place in Maun, one in Shakawe and the other at Phuduhudu respectively.

All the incidents, he said  involved youth aged below 30 years, which he said was worrisome.

In another incident, a 46-year -old woman was hit by a Volvo vehicle on Sunday night at one of the veterinary gates near Sehithwa.

Senior Superintendent Gochela said the driver of the vehicle, who was from Ghanzi heading to Maun lost control at the gate, which was closed and his car veered off the road and hit the woman, who died on the spot.

The deceased, he said was an employee of Veterinary Services and she originates from Seronga in the Okavango District.

The driver survived with minor injuries. Ends
