07 Aug 2018
Serinane Villagers appreciate development projects and initiatives allocated to the village.
Speaking in an interview with BOPA, the Village Development Committee deputy chairperson, Ms Kelebogile Timpa said such projects includeed the construction of two LA2 houses for the local VDC with two more planned under the constituency fund and Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP).
She also said the village benefitted from the Presidential Housing Appeal Scheme, where some of the less privileged villagers were assisted with houses that gave them dignity.
Despite the low quota of Ipelegeng beneficiaries, allocated to them, Ms Timpa said the villagers applauded the programme because it enabled them to meet basic needs such as paying their children’s school fees and even life insurances.
She said the programme had also relieved the Department of Social and Community Development the load of buying coffins for some people when they die.
On Tirelo Setshaba, she said it has also helped in job creation mostly for the youth, but pleaded with government to increase the age limit from 30 to 35.
Ms Timpa called on parents to discourage their children from truancy, saying quitting school is common in their village with the end result being child labour and alcohol abuse at a young age.
Furthermore, she praised the constituency tournament, saying it has assisted many youths to find purpose in life.
She said it would be appreciated if scouts could visit to identity talent as there is a lot of potential for the youths in their village, although most of them end up wasted due to lack of opportunities.
Lastly, Ms Timpa requested that they be assisted with offices for the village kgosi and police officers, as they currently occupy old VDC houses, which are too small to serve clients efficiently. Ends
