Mmashoro police station on cards

Government’s plan to build a police station in Mmashoro is still in the pipeline, residents have been told.
Speaking during a kgotla meeting in Mmashoro on August 4, Serowe West MP, Mr Tshekedi Khama said it had emerged that a number of kgotlas did not have vehicles, a situation which he said hindered police officers operations such as responding speedily to occurrences.
He promised the residents that he would consult with the relevant authorities concerning the issue of vehicles.
Mr Khama, also Minister of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism revealed that both Kgosing and Magwana wards would get kgotla shelters and toilets while the primary school would get a classroom for reception class from the P10million
Constituency Development Fund.
Minister Khama said not all the proposed projects would be covered by the funds, noting that some would be considered in future funding.
The MP revealed that the secondary school wiould get a project to plant oranges and said their desire was for the project to be spearheaded by the students without adults’ interference.
On the village update, Mmashoro Village Development Committee chairperson Mr Anthony Mahanne appealed to the authorities to review what he termed unfavourable working conditions that continued to disadvantage Ipelegeng workers.
Mr Mahanne said unlike other workers, Ipelegeng employees were allowed only two hours for medical check-ups.
He said this needed to be looked into since mostly, patients took longer than two hours at health facilities adding that it was worrsime that if they took longer they had to forfeit their earnings.
Mr Mahanne said there was need for their working guidelines to be reviewed.
The VDC chairperson said despite having been allocated a plot for clinic staff housing, the project had not taken off .
He said they needed 35 houses for civil servants in the village and water system in the school.
Mr Mahanne said presently there were eight pit latrines for the lacl school with a population of 765 pupils.
Responding to the VDC chairperson’s remarks, senior assistant council secretary, Ms Duduetsang Omphile said she would take up the issue of Ipelegeng with the relevant authorities and promised to give the residents feedback.
Concerning shortage of staff housing, Ms Omphile said financial constraints hindered certain developments hence the use of pit latrines.
She said at the moment they were working round the clock to improve the staff housing and that VDC houses were being upgraded by being electrified, and having water system toilets through community constituency projects.
SAA district officer for administration, Mr Collen Tubego encouraged the residents to register with them to enable them rent out some of their houses to public officers. ENDS
