BoMRA recalls Flumed syrup batch over crystallisation

Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority (BoMRA) has recalled one batch of Flumed Syrup manufactured by Varichem Pharmaceuticals (Pvt) Ltd of Zimbabwe after crystallisation was observed in the affected product.

According to BoMRA, the recall affects batch 260180 of Flumed Syrup, a 100ml product manufactured in March 2026 and due to expire in February 2028.

The syrup contains paracetamol 120mg, phenylephrine hydrochloride 2.5mg, dextromethorphan hydrobromide 2.0mg and chlorpheniramine maleate 0.5mg per 5ml.

In a press release, BoMRA says the recall is limited to the specified batch and advises the public who have the affected product to stop using it immediately.

Consumers have also been urged to return the syrup to the pharmacy, health facility or point of purchase where it was obtained and follow the supplier’s instructions on its return or replacement.

The medicines regulator further encourages healthcare professionals and the public to report any suspected adverse drug reactions associated with the product.

Reports can be submitted to BoMRA through its adverse drug reaction reporting platforms, including the email address: reportadr@bomra.co.bw and the Med Safety App, which is available on Google Play and the App Store.

BoMRA further urges the public to take the recall seriously and cooperate with the recall process as part of efforts to protect public health. ENDS
