Matsiloje police have arrested the former boyfriend of a 31-year-old Zimbabwean woman who was found dead on August 1 at her rented house with stabbed wounds on her neck.

Station Commander of Matsiloje Police Station Superintendent Obert Manji said in an interview that the 58-year-old suspect from Matsiloje was helping police with investigations.

“I confirm that the former boyfriend is in police custody helping with investigations,” he added.

Superintendent Manji said the deceased was the one who reported the matter to the police on August 1 at around 8pm and that the police rushed to the scene where the victim was taken to Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital where she was certified dead upon arrival.

He explained that initially the suspect told the police that he received a phone call from the deceased’s brother who informed him that he had been trying to call the deceased but that her cellphone rang unanswered.

He said he then decided to go to the deceased’s rented house where upon arrival asked for permission from the landlord to see the deceased.

Superintendent Manji said the landlord agreed to the request and the two went to knock at the door but the deceased could not open.

He said they then swiped the window to gain entrance into the house where they found the deceased lying in her bed covering herself with a blanket.

The suspect further told the police that upon uncovering the deceased they discovered that the deceased had been stabbed several times on the neck with a sharp instrument.  

Superintendent Manji further stated that police preliminary investigations had revealed that the two had ended their relationship in June this year.

He further said the brother to the deceased had also confirmed that he phoned the suspect to inform him about her sister’s not answering the cellphone and requested him (suspect) to go and check on her.
