Ministry advises on Ebola

Ministry of Health and Wellness has advised the public to postpone and avoid travelling to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) following the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak.
A press release from the ministry says 26 suspected cases of Ebola and 20 deaths has been reported in July 29 and four of the six samples collected for laboratory analysis were confirmed to be Ebola.
According to the release, the Ebola Virus Disease epidemic was reported from Mangina town, in North Kivu province that is close to the border with Rwanda and Uganda.
It says Ebola is highly contagious and virulent disease with serve fatality that can be transmitted through contact with infected person’s body fluids.
The release states that in 2013, Ebola infected 28 600 people and killed 11 300 in West African countries.
“Travelers are also advised to take necessary precautions, while the ministry will continue to monitor the situation at all levels and update the public as the epidemic unfolds,” says the release. Ends
