BIHL Trust awards scholarship to four

Four bright students have been awarded an opportunity to study post graduate programmes at local institutions through the Botswana Insurance Holdings Limited (BIHL) Trust Thomas Tlou Scholarship.

Announcing the 2018 cohort in Gaborone on August 3, BIHL Trust chairperson, Major General Bakwena Oitsile underlined the importance of advancing the education agenda to help move the country forward. 

He said the scholarship recipients were primed to play a critical role in the development of the country in years to come.

Major General Oitsile also said there was a need to focus on developing leaders through education.

He noted that through the trust, BIHL was able to impact the community by empowering its people by facilitating their access to advanced education.

“We are able to make a greater social impact and it is only through a concerted effort that we will be able to develop skills needed to shape our future,” he said.

He encouraged recipients to use the opportunity to empower, not only themselves, but others in order to make a difference in their communities.

BIHL Trust administrator, Ms Tebogo Keepetsoe said the recipients, Ms Kamogelo Nnoi, Mr States Mphinyane, Ms Lechani Kgangyame and Mr Kabo Majwabe were selected after a stringent exercises. They all earned a two-year prestigious award to pursue their post graduate and master’s programmes.

She said this year’s selection process was challenging as there were many quality prospects to select from. She said interest in the scholarship would continue to grow as BIHL continued to expand its communications channels by optimising its digital presence to spread the message.

The BIHL Thomas Tlou Scholarship is a programme initiated in honour of the late educator, Professor Thomas Tlou who made it his mission to educate others and help propel the nation to a brighter future.

Since the initiation of the scholarship in 2012, a total of 29 scholars have received the prestigious award to further their postgraduate studies.

This year, the trust received a record number of applications, showing a 60 per cent increase from last year. ENDS
