Botswana police awards excellence

05 Aug 2018

As a precursor to this year’s police day celebrations, Botswana Police Service (BPS) on August 3 held a medals award ceremony where scores of officers of different ranks and units were recognised for their dedicated service to the nation.

The awards were in recognition of deserving members of the BPS for their outstanding service and the good conduct they displayed while performing their police duties.

The ceremony, which was graced by President Mokgweetsi Masisi and Vice President Slumber Tsogwane, saw officers receive medals in different categories of Long Service and Good Conduct, Jubilee Service, Distinguished Service Order and Meritorious Service.

The Long Service and Good Conduct medals were awarded to candidates who, with unquestionable conduct, had served in the police service for a continuous period of 18 years.

To deserve the award, awardees also needed to have, in the opinion of the police commissioner, set a good example by general conduct.

They also need to have not been convicted of any offence of a nature deemed to bring the name of the BPS into disrepute.

For members of the police service to be worthy of the Jubilee Service medal, they need to have served for at least 25 years with good conduct and character.

As for the Distinguished Service Order medal, an award attained after serving for 30 years, members ought to have distinguished themselves by their devotion to duty.

To be awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, officers need to have served for at least 12 years, a period during which they ought to have set a high example by their conduct and diligence. ENDS
