Suspected murderer remanded as search for victims head continues
02 Aug 2018
Simon Kgowe, the 38 year-old man alleged to have murdered a woman and dumped her headless body in Tlokweng was on August 2 further remanded in custody pending the completion of investigations into the matter.
After the accused’s arraignment, presiding magistrate Ms Batho Kgerethwa of Extension 2 Magistrates Court acceded to the prosecution’s plea for Kgowe’s remand, and further ruled that the issue of bail would be addressed at the next mention scheduled for August 16.
Ms Kgerethwa also directed that the accused be taken for medical attention after Kgowe complained of being unwell.
Subsequent to the reading of the charge sheet to the accused person, the prosecutor, Inspector Joseph Kehakae of Tlokweng Police Station told the court that investigations into the matter were at an early stage and added that the Investigating Officer (IO) and his team were still searching for the deceased’s head.
Insp. Kehakae also indicated that two other suspects were still at large and efforts to locate them were still ongoing.
He said it was for these reasons that the prosecution wanted Kgowe to be further remanded in custody as granting him bail was likely to result in him interfering with investigations.
Insp. Kehakae said the prosecution would address the issue of bail during the next mention where the IO would also be available to address the court on the state of the investigations.
Particulars of the offence are that on July 30 at Block 3 in Gaborone, the unemployed Kgowe murdered Elizabeth Kerekang by cutting off her head and then dumped her body in Tlokweng.
A plea was not taken. ENDS
