Member of Parliament for Francistown West, Mr Ignatius Moswaane says his office has committed itself to helping residents apply for government loans and grants.
Mr Moswaane, who was addressing a kgotla meeting in Botsalano Ward in Francistown on July 31, told residents that his office was open to assist all those interested in applying for the Youth Development Fund and gender affairs grants.
He said he was disappointed at the low rate at which constituents applied for such programme meant to improve their lives, adding his office also assisted applicants with business plans and filling of application forms for various business ideas.
“You cannot achieve your desired goals if you do not take the first step by applying for financial assistance. We are responsible for our own futures and livelihood,” he added.
The MP also discouraged residents against using illegal means of getting income such as selling of drugs whereas there were better means such as the various financial schemes.
A resident of Botsalano Ward, Ms Koketso Makgoane concurred with the MP’s concerns about underutilised initiatives.
She thus urged fellow residents eligible to make use of the programmes, adding the community can benefit from local businesses.
Another resident, Mr Lopang Matsetse agreed that such initiatives could improve a lot of lives.
He however urged beneficiaries to repay loans within the stipulated time frame so that the same funds could be used to finance other applicants. ENDS
