MmaMotse empowers women

MmaMotse Glow Events is a social non - governmental organisation that aims at empowering women as well as giving back to the community.
Established in May 2016, MmaMotse came about after the realisation that women go through challenging and complex situations and as such educate them on issues affecting women, such as health, beauty, fitness and finances.
In an interview with BOPA, founder and managing director Ms Daphney Palmer said they also shared life skills, business mentoring, guidance, marital advice and motherhood tips with women through seminars, getaways and road trips.
Ms Palmer further said through their annual MmaMotse Power High Tea held in August, they invited experts who shared their life experiences, noting that they assisted all women regardless of their social and economic standing.
‘’MmaMotse gives women in business the platform to network and benchmark as well as marketing their products and this is done through buying stalls and attending the high tea’’, she said
Furthermore, Ms Palmer noted that MmaMotse through an event dubbed Widows Meet Up, supported and showed solidarity to widowed women during the International Month of Women.
Ms Palmer further said as part of their corporate social responsibility they adopted a charity organisation that they assisted annually.
‘‘We also give back to the community and over the years we have adopted Our Lady of the Camel Primary School In Morwa where we bought the under privileged learners school uniform and we also donated sanitary towels to Borwa Junior Secondary School in 2017,’’she indicated
She highlighted that in November 2016, MmaMotse took 30 men and women for a day trip to South Africa for leisure and relaxation.
Ms Palmer added that they had also hosted karaoke and poetry night in 2016 in Gaborone as a way of celebrating women in the arts and entertainment industry, and encourage them to join the sector as it could assist elevate their lives through self employment.
Furthermore, Ms Palmer said that they were to host their annual high tea event this month under the theme ,The Bold and the beautiful-Unleash the beast in you and grab your destiny.
“This year we are encouraging women to overcome their fears and challenges by striving hard to achieve their dreams, what they are destined to do against all odds,’’she said.
Ms Palmer indicated that women do appreciate and welcome their efforts.
‘’Women love our events. They are grateful to our concept as they always expresses signs of relief and open up about issues they faced daily, something which pleases us as MmaMotse because it indicates we are doing it the right way’,’she added
However, Ms Palmer noted that they faced financial constraints, urging government to lend a helping hand as they could not alone help develop the communities.
Through income earned at the various events they hosted, a portion of the proceeds went back to the community.
“From the 2016 high tea, profits which were around P16 000 were donated to children in need from different schools in Kgatleng and we bought school uniforms and sanitary towels’,’ she said. ENDS
