The Motor Vehicle Insurance Fund’s chief injury prevention officer has encouraged mothers to assist in fighting the growing social ills within society.
Officiating at a three-day Anglican Church Mothers Union Conference in Molepolole recently, Mr Mompati Bontsibokae said as mothers are the backbone of the church and the nation at large, it is important that they work against societal ills impacting on nation building.
Mr Bontsibokae said it was at such events that mothers renewed their vows to carry on their efforts of nation building and bring it closer to God by being more compassionate to mankind.
He said as members of a faith based organisation, they continued to demonstrate that faith without works was nothing, emphasising the need for mothers to be aware of the fact that they were custodians of faith in their churches and the family.
Mr Bontsibokae told the over 700 Mothers’ Union delegates to understand that their role was critical in church growth and therefore called on them to guard against things that may work against what the church intended to achieve.
“Indeed your vision, where God’s love is shown through teaching, caring for those faced with calamities and flourishing relationships does not go unnoticed,” he said.
He challenged mothers in the church to share their foresight with other church organs to be able to leave behind a legacy that will be cherished forever.
“The strength of your Christian values remains relevant in the present day Botswana where some individuals and communities are rekindling their cultural norms,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mothers Union Anglican’s president Ms Agnes Ncaagae challenged mothers to work towards influencing international policy framework to strive for gender equality and empowerment of women and the girl child.
The Anglican Mothers Union conference wrapped up its three days of business with a Community Social Responsibility gesture benefitting a girl child at Kgari Sechele II Senior Secondary School and Molepolole Prison inmates. ENDS
