Francistown Senior Magistrate Ms Cele Lebakeng has remanded two men accused of burglary and theft in custody.
The duo, a local taxi driver Tshepiso Mosupatsela and a Zimbabwean national, Paul Berman who appeared in court on July 27, are said to have been found in possession of four flat television screens.
Magistrate Lebakeng ordered that the two men appear for another mention on August 9.
Kutlwano Station Commander Superintendent, Neo Serumola said in an interview that the police acted on a tip-off from a member of the public after the taxi driver was found selling some television sets, which according to their investigations were stolen during the past President’s Holidays.
Superintendent Serumola explained that the local taxi driver then led them to the arrest of the Zimbabwean man and upon interrogation, it emerged that the the two were jointly involved in the stealing of the television sets.
It is alleged that the taxi driver would scout his targets when they had requested for a special to go and take their belongings at their residences.
Supt Serumola said the taxi driver would ask the unsuspecting customers where they were going and when they were coming back.
He said the two would then go and break into the victim’s house knowing that owners were not present.
Supt Serumola said they had managed to trace some of the owners of the television sets.
He advised people not tell anybody about their whereabouts or where they intend to go because that could jeopardise their security.
He said the Zimbabwean suspect is not a first offender. ENDS
