Assistant Superintendent Alice Oabile of Kutlwano Police Station says Selepa ward in Francistown has recorded the highest number of crimes this quarter compared to the last.
Speaking at a kgotla meeting addressed by the Member of Parliament for Francistown East, Mr Buti Billy recently, Asst. Supt Oabile noted that Selepa ward leads in break ins, attempted break ins and theft.
She informed the meeting that the area recorded an increased number of illegal immigrants.
Asst. Supt Oabile observed that between January and March this year, Kutlwano Police Station registered ten break-ins in Selepa and captured 25 illegal immigrants.
She observed that for the month of June, Selepa had 13 break-ins and recorded 60 illegal immigrants.
She pleaded with residents to work closely with the police adding that a lot could be achieved if residents assist the police by bringing forward evidence and reporting crimes within the community.
The Francistown East legislator, Mr Billy added that an active crime prevention committee was important in fighting the increase of crimes in Selepa.
“It is upon us residents to help the police fight crime in our ward. Residents outnumber the police, therefore we should be the eyes and ears of the police,” he said. ENDS
