Help government clean environment Makwinja

Chief executive officer of Botswana Railways, Mr Leonard Makwinja has appealed to communities of Mahalapye Sub-district to take the responsibility of cleaning the environment.
Officiating at the cleanup commemoration at Tewane recently, Mr Makwinja said despite government efforts to keep the environment clean, some members of the community were not committed in augmenting the efforts.
He said government was doing all in its power by educating the community on the importance of cleaning environment.
Mr Makwinja said without the community’s contribution, council efforts would be ineffective.
He advised the community that it was important to make sure that they took part in cleaning the environment. He appreciated government’s efforts in caring for the environment.
Mr Makwinja also applauded litter collection initiatives benefiting some members of the community in the sub-district.
He said some individuals with donkey carts were engaged at some villages to collect refuse while others were engaged as green scorpions educating the community on the benefits of a clean environment.
For his part, assistant council secretary Mr Detto Molatlhegi said the day was commemorated to sensitise the community on the importance of keeping the environment clean.
In an effort to motivate the communities to play a pivotal role in cleaning the environment, Mr Molatlhegi said the cleanest villages would be rewarded, adding that individual efforts would also be appreciated. ENDS
