29 Jul 2018

Residents of Sehithwa in the Ngami District have thanked government for the development of a service centre, which is at an initial stage.

In his welcome remarks at a kgotla meeting addressed by the area Member of Parliament on July 27, Kgosi Boitiro Dithapo of Sehithwa said the service centre, which was expected to be operational by December, was a great development.

The Village Development Committee (VDC) chairperson, Mr Prince Ndjarakana also appreciated the service centre and construction of a kgotla structure which is also at an initial stage.

Mr Ndjarakana said an LA2 house had also been approved to be developed, which will add to the VDC houses.

However, Mr Ndjarakana said accommodation was a great challenge since the service centre development meant bringing more officers to the village.

Member of Parliament, Mr Thato Kwerepe commended Sehithwa VDC for a good job and also advised them to report on how government programmes performed in the area so as to have an impact in their community members lives.

On other issues, Mr Kwerepe informed the residents about bills proposed in Parliament and reviews of some laws.

He said government had heard people’s concerns such as problem  elephants and the bad state of the road from Ngami to Okavango.

Regarding the road, he said companies were on site to fill potholes and reseal from Nokaneng to Mohembo while consultations were ongoing regarding problem elephants.

Mr Kwerepe also said government had amended the law on Omang, which dictated that women with head wraps should remove them before being photographed for the national identity card.

He said such women especially the Baherero and Mbaderu who are commonly found in Ngami District, would now be allowed to take photos for Omang with their head scarves on.

In his closing remarks, Mr Mmoedi Modiegi of the Maun Administration Authority advised that the Constituency fund in the following year be channeled towards staff accommodation since many officers would be placed in the area for the service centre.

The service centre, he said was a great development that would serve people of Sehithwa and surrounding villages. ENDS
