Lady Khama Trust raises funds for charities

29 Jul 2018

Chairperson of the Lady Khama Charitable Trust (LKCT) says the main objective of the Trust is to raise funds for charities that deal with vulnerable women and children.

In an interview at the Lady Khama Family Fun Day, Urban Obstacle Course and Patron’s Cup Challenge on July 28, Mr Dale ter Haar said in estimation, the family fun day had raised a little over P200 000 but they would be sure of the correct figure after everything had been tallied up.

“This event was divided into three categories. It started with the Family Fun Day which was sponsored by Avani Hotel and Casino. The annual event comprises several activities to keep all members of the family entertained throughout the day,” he said, adding that they had a children’s park where they brought new things for all age groups.

He said funds raised would then be disbursed to other charitable organisations.

Speaking on the Patron’s Cup challenge, Mr ter Haar said for a team to enter they needed to pay a joining fee of P10 000.

Some of the sponsors that participated include Spar, Avani, Puma and Diacore.

People were treated to Chill Step Pop-Up Gallery House (a walk-through a display of local arts and culture) while a mobile sports pub also treated mums and dads with traditional games.

The event also had a variety of food stalls giving all including vegetarians a variety to choose from.

According to ter Haar, the urban obstacle activity was designed to encourage teamwork and was not for the faint-hearted.

He said team members were encouraged to have different physical and mental strengths, as each obstacle would test those abilities and the best and only way to achieve them would be to work as a team.

Other activities included five-a-side football game, bike race, sprint relay and the crowd-pleasing tug-of-war. ENDS
