Son among suspects in family murder

26 Jul 2018

Four men suspected of killing three Ntlolengwae Family members on June 21 were arraigned before Molepolole Chief magistrate Ms Linah Mokibe-Oahile today (July 26).

The four suspects Tebogo Ramantosha, the family’s only surviving child, Mmoloki Thaelo, Poloko Segwagwa, and Cornelious Saidoo aged between 27 and 37 of Molepolole, Mogoditshane and Block 7 in Gaborone made a brief appearance before the court.

Each of the four accused is faced with three counts of murder. The charge sheet alleged that each of the four suspects jointly and in consent murdered the three Ramantosha family members.

The prosecution led by Assistant Superintendent Uyapo Koketso pleaded for the remand of the suspects arguing that investigations were at a preliminary stage following the arrest of the suspects on July 25.

The arrest of the four follows the suspected murder of a Ntlolengwae couple Patrick and Boingotlo Ramantosha aged 55 and 47 together with their 22-year-old son Keabetswe on the night of June 21.

The lifeless bodies of the victims were found lying in the couple’s bedroom with their hands tied at the back and their mouths covered with sellotapes.

The police confirmed there were visible injuries on the three deceased persons.

Co-prosecutor Sub Inspector Barulaganye Tiase concurred with Mr Koketso for the court to remand the suspects arguing that the police had been spending sleepless nights in their quest to apprehend the suspected killers.

Inspector Tiase further revealed to the court that the television set suspected to have been stolen from the family at the time of the incident was found in one of the suspects’ possession.

“I pray that we be given indulgence to further investigate the brutal killing as the police had been spending sleepless nights to crack leads resulting in the arrest of the four,” pleaded Sub Inspector Tiase.

He assured the court that in the next appearance, they were likely to be in a position to shed more light into the tragedy.

The police had initially launched an intensive manhunt through public notice with a P50 000 reward for anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects which resulted in the arrest of Ramantosha’s son Tebogo on July 23 while three others were arrested two days later. ENDS
