Central seeks own revenue sources
26 Jul 2018
Central District Council finance committee chairperson Mr Onalepelo Kedikilwe says in an attempt to increase revenue base, the council through the Adhock Investment Committee is reviewing sources of revenue and identifying new ones.
Presenting the 2019/20 recurrent estimates for the council, he said the budget would be financed by the Revenue Support Grant of about P1.2 billion and income from own sources amounting to about P34 million.
“Let me indicate that it is evident that most of the council budget is from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development. The district is therefore encouraged to come up with other financing strategies such as partnership programmes to develop the district or finance emerging needs,” he said.
Mr Kedikilwe said the 2019/20 financial year would be a zero type based budget, adding that when preparing the budget, certain issues were taken into consideration such as the three per cent increment on salaries and allowance using the current salaries as the base line.
Increase in prices for destitute food basket and maintenance of facilities and equipment as well as budgetary provisions for insurance based on the 2017/2018 actuals, and provision for Ipelegeng programme running costs were also considered.
The budget, he said, included about P15.5 million for Ipelegeng running costs, which were previously not budgeted for under the recurrent budget.
He said the income from own sources insignificantly increased from P33 778 422 in 2018/19 to P34 048 610.
Mr Kedikilwe said the total cost of proposed projects for 2019/2020 financial year was about P1.3 billion.
However, he said P934 220 607 covered projects that were not in the plan, while P384 386 138 was for planned and approved DDP 8 projects. ENDS
