Khama praises award winning Seperu group

President Lt Gen Seretse Khama Ian Khama has praised Ikoga’s Seperu dance group, Shoshoruka for scooping position one during the President’s Day competitions.
Speaking during a visit to the village with cabinet ministers on Friday, President Khama said he was impressed by the group’s performance and he invited them to be part of those who would be performing during Botswana’s 47th Independence celebrations.
The President also thanked Kgosi Sarefo Mombeko for taking part in grooming the group and encouraging the villagers to take part in such competitions.
He noted that their talent had also granted them an opportunity to travel to Gaborone to showcase Botswana’s talent whenever an official or a head of state visited the country.
Speaking in an interview, Shoshoruka coordinator, Lethebe Sethwara said that they were happy for such a big achievement, as their dream had always been to perform for the President.
Sethwara said they were dedicated to Seperu dance and that they even left the village for two and a half months in order to prepare for the President’s Day competitions.
He said recognition by the head of state had really motivated them noting that they were excited about being given the opportunity to perform in Gaborone
He pointed out that what made them stand out in comparison to other Seperu groups was that they used reeds as a dance tool, their speed and the way they moved their waists when performing
The coordinator noted that having faith and determination also worked for them. He thanked the President for the President’s Day competitions intiative, saying that it has improved many people’s lives.Sethwara also said that it was time that the youth use their talent to earn a living. ENDS
