Over P32 million for Molepolole internal roads
22 Jul 2018
Kweneng District Council has resolved to pave some internal roads through Constituency Fund.
Kweneng district assistant council secretary, Mr Douglas Sesimanyana told BOPA in an interview that over P32 million would be used for paving roads in Molepolole South, Molepolole North and other villages such as Loologane, Boatlaname, Shadishadi, Sojwe and Lephepe.
He said the projects came as an idea of the Village Development Committees (VDCs) who consulted with area councillors and relevant authorities including area Members of Parliament.
Mr Sesimanyana said tenders were awarded to locals as a way of empowering them following approval of projects by the ministry, adding that this was also done in consultation with VDCs.
He said different companies that had won the tenders only provided labour while the council bought materials and they encouraged them to employ locals of which 274 had been engaged.
Mr Sesimanyana said some roads were complete, others at 50 per cent while some were awaiting materials pending court hearing as some companies were appealing awarding of tenders.
He said paving of roads had made it easy for road users especially those who used taxis as the roads were now easily accessible.
For his part, Borakalalo ward (Molepolole North) VDC chairperson, Mr Busang Lekote said the idea to pave internal roads was reached after realising that residents struggled to get to services and their daily needs, especially during rainy seasons.
He said with two roads being done in his area, residents would be able to access the clinic and public transport as taxis had not been going to some areas due to bad roads.
Mr Lekote expressed hope that more internal roads would be paved.
Part of the constituency fund will be used to build a reception class at Borakalalo Primary School. ENDS
