Officer Commanding District No. 5, Senior Superintendent, Peter Gochela says no major crime incidents were recorded during the just-ended President’s Day holidays except four rape incidents.
He said last year they recorded a higher number of incidents ranging from murder and fatal accidents, while this time, they recorded few accidents, but no fatalities or murder incidents.
He revealed in an interview that rape incidents were still worrisome, noting that they were investigating four such cases, one of them involving a minor.
Senior Superintendent Gochela said a two-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an unknown suspect at Boseja ward.
He said the aunt to the victim reported the matter to the police after finding some blood stains in the little girl’s private parts.
He said they suspect that the incident took place during the day as they received the report late on July 13.
He said the second incident involves a 28-year-old woman who was raped by a friend to her boyfriend.
Senior Superintendent Gochela said the victim, who originates from Sedie ward, met her fate at Thito ward while coming from an entertainment spot, as she had asked the suspect to take her to her boyfriend’s place.
He said the victim said upon arrival, they found nobody and the suspect took advantage and dragged her to a nearby bush and raped her.
He said the other two incidents took place at Boseja ward on July 15, after both the victims and suspects met at bars after the victims asked for lifts from the suspects.
Senior Superintendent Gochela revealed that one of the cases involves a 30-year-old woman who was raped by a 25-year-old man also from Boseja.
He said the duo met at one of the bars and the victim asked for a lift from the suspect, who on the way changed direction to his place, where he raped the victim.
The three suspects have been arrested, while investigations continue.
The police are also investigating an incident in which a 31-year-old man was found dead in his house at Boseja on July 16.
The deceased, who originates from Ncojane in the Ghanzi District, was last seen on July 13 and his neighbour reported his missing as his car was seen parked in front of the house
Senior Superintendent Gochela said investigations were on going to establish the cause of his death.
In Gumare, the police chief reported that they recorded a shooting incident where a 40-year-old mentally disturbed man stole his father’s gun and shot aimlessly.
Fortunately, he said no fatalities or injuries were recorded as he shot in the air and ran away after shooting, but the police managed to trace him and took the gun from him.
Senior Superintendent Gochela also noted that a 31-year-old male soldier based in Maun was caught in possession of a green substance suspected to be dagga.
He said the suspect was caught by Seronga police at a road block, while on his way to visit his girlfriend at Seronga.
He said when the police stopped the suspect, he got out of the car and ran away because he did not have a driving licence, adding that they police managed to catch him and upon searching his car, they found the substance. ENDS
