UDC wins Ramokgwebana by- election

Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) has won the Ramokgwebana ward by-election sending Mr Morapedi Mafohla to council.

UDC garnered 378 votes while BDP represented by Mr Godfrey Smile obtained 293 whereas four votes were spoilt.

In his acceptance speech Mr Mafohla thanked voters for believing in him, indicating that as the new Councillor for Ramokgwebana ward he would advocate for access to water which was one of the major issues troubling Jackalas 1 village.

He further thanked his campaign team for doing a sterling job by connecting him to the voters.

On the other hand Mr Smile congratulated Mr Mafohla, saying he accepted the results.

He stated that it was a fair game of numbers where UDC had an upper hand adding that he believed the water crisis in Jackalas 1 was one of the a defining factors for his loss.

Mr Smile further said it was not the end as there was the upcoming general elections in 2019 which the BDP was highly anticipating.

In a post elections interview the Returning officer  Ms Bupelo Ndori- Salani said the election ran smoothly with no misunderstandings or acts of misconduct.

She stated that they had  expected 1114 voters who had registered during the 2014 general elections but only 675 voted.

The by-election followed the passing on of Councillor Alfred Makgetho in April this year after a short illness.

In the 2014 elections BDP’s Mr Makgetho clinched the ward with 400 votes, UDC’s Mr Michael Muzola received 290 while BCP’s Mr Isaac Mogwe got 200 votes. ENDS
