Thieves flee with Liquorama cash
10 Jul 2018
Two thieves, armed with what looked like a gun on Saturday evening robbed Taung Liquorama cash amounting to P24 000 before vanishing into thin air without a trace.
This is the second time Taung Liquorama was attacked by thieves and vanished without trace in a space of two years. The other incident happened last year.
Ramotswa Police Station commander, Superintendent Keoagile Tau said the police were still on the lookout for the two armed robbers.
“We have not yet arrested anyone and we are appealing to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to assist,” he said in an interview on Monday.
He stated that in most cases such criminals were members of the community whose lifestyle was known in the community, hence any sudden change in the lifestyle of such individuals without any known source of income, could be a tip to connect to the loot.
Superintendent Tau noted that the event happened just minutes before the liquor outlet closed and cautioned shop owners to be careful whom they allowed into their premises before business close.
Also, he advised business owners not to wait for the business to close before they could deposit their funds.
On another matter before the police, Superintendent Tau said they had arrested a 44 year-old man of Ramotswa found in procession of a substance believed to be marijuana.
He stated that the suspect was arrested around Ramotswa bus rank area in procession of 10 sachets and upon a search conducted at the suspect’s place, more sachets were recovered and 75 sachets have since been recovered.
Further, a cash of around P5 000 was found under the bed and the suspect confessed that the drug was supplied from outside the village.
Superintendent Tau added that their investigations were ongoing.
Also, the Ramotswa police Superintendent stated although they have not recorded many cases of marijuana, they were worried about the usage of the substance in the area of their jurisdiction.
The police chief appealed to members of the community to report people they suspect to be dealing in drugs to the police since some of them were known to community members. ENDS
