09 Jul 2018
The family of the late former Sebina\Gweta MP Mr Mudongo Maswikiti has donated P50 000 to Nshakashobgwe Village Development Committee towards the construction of a youth centre.
Speaking at the donation handover ceremony in Nshakazhobgwe recently, Local Government and Rural Development Minister Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi praised the family for their generosity saying they had done a remarkable job.
She said they had set a good example for others as the money would help to start the project.
She pointed out that the project would benefit not only Nshakashobgwe residents but those of surrounding villages.
The minister urged people to utilise the services which would be provided at the centre and not to turn it into a white elephant.
Noting that the facility would offer social work services, she advised residents to seek help to address issues of such as gender based violence. On other issues, Ms Venson-Moitoi encouraged residents, especially the youth, to take advantage of Youth Development Fund (YDF) and other government initiatives.
She said venturing into business through such initiatives would also help reduce unemployment.
Minister Venson-Moitoi urged parents to assist and encourage their children to take courses which would equip them with skills to sustain themselves.
The late Mr Maswikiti’s son, Mr Elliot Maswikiti, said they found it necessary to take part in the development of the village.
He said one of his father’s dreams was to construct a library for the village but died before his wishes were realised hence his children found it fit to fulfil his dream.
Ms Venson-Moitoi donated P2 000 while the area MP Mr Fidelis Molao donated 10 000 bricks. Ends
