Former South African President and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, the late Dr Nelson Mandela once said education is the most powerful weapon that can be used to change the world.

This famous saying talks directly to 26-year-old Mr Moemedi Senwelo, who is an academic of note despite his youthful age and a successful entrepreneur who lives and breathes anything academic.

He is the founder and chief executive officer of CRACK iT Tuition, Cracking Revision Books, Freedom Books and Innovation Expo Botswana.

Mr Senwelo, like any young and ambitious entrepreneur, started his businesses from humble beginnings.

Armed with the passion for education and better knowledge, he founded Word Crackers Company in 2011, which he ran for seven years before selling off his shares to his partner to begin his current successful business, CRACK iT Tuition.

“CRACK iT Tuition is in more than eight cities and towns around Botswana such as in Francistown, Gaborone, Kanye, Jwaneng, Lobatse, Selebi-Phikwe, Maun, Mahalapye and Kasane and employs over 62 people,” Mr Senwelo said in an interview.

His priority, he said, was to ensure that education was affordable and easily accessible to all and to be a significant partner of the government in educational policy formulations.

To show his commitment to academics in Botswana, he has carried out a Personal Development and Academic Performance Improvement Programme in which he taught students Purpose Discovery, Planning and Goal Setting, Study Skills and Time Management. 

Further to that, Mr Senwelo has personally sponsored prize giving ceremonies in various schools and awarded free tutorials to best performing students in schools around the country.

He has helped over 1 000 students who had failed their Botswana General Certificate of Secondary Education examination to supplement at his tuition centres for free so they advance to tertiary.

“I have counselled many of these students across the country to make wise career choices. 

It gives me pleasure to see many of them doing well at different tertiary schools,” he said.

His efforts to improve the standard of education in Botswana have not gone unnoticed as in 2017, he was awarded ‘The Best Youth in Academic Excellence’ by Botswana Youth Award for the impact that he is making in Botswana’s education.

Being somewhat of an academic genius himself, he has seen it fit to share his vast academic knowledge with others by writing some of the industry’s most sought after revision books. 

“I have written books in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics under the Cracking Revision Book Series, which have been highly recommended by teachers since 2014. 

I am also the co-author of a book titled; The Making of A Teen Entrepreneur and Success is A choice. 

The books are available in Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Namibia and Zambia,” he said.

The public relations officer of CRACK It Tuition, Ms Lesedi Mkhutshwa stated in an interview that their boss works hard to make education in Botswana that of a higher level like in other countries. She said due to their company’s well sought after services, they were looking to expand to other places around the country such as Bobonong, Molepolole and Moshupa. BOPA
