Youth take job hunt to social media

The youth of Botswana have resorted to use social networks to surmount unemployment and create opportunities for one another. 

In an interview with BOPA, Mr Kris Bareki, a Motswana, who started the #EmploymentAlertBW movement said unemployment is consuming a lot of skilled Botswana youth after the country spent resources to empower them. 

Mr Bareki said the initiative is meant to assist unemployed youth in locating available job opportunities in the country. 

He said the #EmploymentAlertBW is a platform that provides information tips on effective job searches, resume building, populating motivational letter and identifying areas of the economy that are growing.

Mr Bareki clarified that the vision is to avail a pool where recruitment agencies and Human Resources personnel can withdraw resources for available job vacancies as it will assist one to reach a database of skilled unemployed individuals. 

 He noted that the movement commenced on social media and is currently booming on Twitter, adding that the hashtag helps every individual to navigate for suitable job posts of interest. 

 Mr Bareki explained that even though the movement was created for those who are unemployed, those who are actively seeking jobs are also encouraged to participate and also visit the platform. 

 He said social media tools are the most effective and convenient means of reaching out to every spectra of individual, hence the movement is well known on Twitter and hopes to reach other social media streams. 

He said various institutions are at liberty to use the hashtag in order to help reduce the high rate of unemployment. 

 “It will be … to form partnership with recruitment agencies and organisations to adopt the hashtag,” he indicated. 

 Meanwhile, Mr Bareki indicated that the f #EmploymentAlertBW movement, which begun late last year, is not his alone, as there are few individuals who are giving a hand. ENDS
