Ghanzi Botswana Public Employees Union (BOPEU) branch recently donated toiletries, including sanitary pads to Itekeng Junior Secondary School.

Branch chairperson, Mr Puso Tshitologo said the donation was made possible through contributions from the BOPEU branch members and assistance from Goobaitshepi Guest House in Kang.   

Mr Tshitologo said they decided to donate after a needs assessment exercise. 

He said they hoped the donation would go a long way in helping the students not just to focus on their education but to also not be disturbed by other external factors such as the need for sanitary pads.

He said they not only wanted to bring dignity to the students, but instil the spirit of giving on them, as they are future workers and leaders. 

Mr Tshitologo said BOPEU is not only concerned about the welfare of the workers, but also has a role to play in the community through its corporate social responsibility programme.

When receiving the gifts, the school head, Mr David Mfila said the donation was appreciated as it will motivate the students.

He said with the help of school’s counselling department, they will ensure that the toiletries and sanitary pads reach the beneficiaries.  ENDS
