Association of Environmental Clubs of Botswana (AECB), will from July 18 to 22 hold a meeting at Tsau camp in the Central Kgalagadi Game Reserve (CKGR).
The AECB chairperson, Mr Kabo Ngwanathebe said in an interview on July 6 that the meeting was aimed at, among others, capacitating association members on the operations of the organisation, discussion of action plan and linkages AECB had with other Non-Governmental Organisations.
Established in 1989 with the sole aim of promoting conservation of natural resources, AECB is the brainchild behind formulation of wildlife clubs that became well-liked at schools in the early 90s.
Mr Ngwanathebe said at the time, nature conservation message struck a chord with students because majority of the teachers across all levels of education coordinated clubs.
He stated however that the conservation crusade lost its punch towards the late 90s, which gave rise to the formation of nature conservation wing to cater for everybody other than students.
“We realised as an organisation that many students were lost to conservation matters upon finishing school, hence started the conservation wing to ensure continuity,” he said.
Further, he stated the association had set up a 10 -member committee to spearhead its conservation campaigns.
Numerous meetings as well as a community project to be carried out at a yet to be announced place in the southern region have been lined up among activities intended to intensify the campaign. ENDS
