President Mokgweetsi Masisi is expected to officially open Ghanzi show on July 6.

Briefing Ghanzi District council about the show on Friday, Ghanzi District show committee chairperson Mr Shane Kebadile said they were now registered as a trust.

He said the committee was prepared to host the President and his entourage who would include ministers, senior government official and parastatal executives.

Also expected to grace the event is Kgosi Malope II of Bangwaketse.

He said for the first time, space for horse race was fully registered and horses from the locality were expected to feature in the race.

Mr Kebadile told the council that 35 private companies have made bookings compared to around 20 the previous year while 16 parastatals and 15 government departments would be present.

 He said they have secured over P230 000 in sponsorship from various organisations among them; Stanbic Bank Botswana, Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency, Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Botswana Stock Exchange and Ion insurance company, Botswana Housing Corporation while some such as security companies pledged to contribute in kind.

Mr Kebadile told BOPA that 39 livestock exhibitors were expected to compete.

“A high number of cattle is expected and we have expanded the kraals to accommodate them,” stated Mr Kebadile.

Another first for the show, he said, would be the dog race noting that they have partnered with Botswana Greyhound Association to facilitate the race.

He said the community has shown interest in the dog race and just like livestock, dogs too were expected to be in good shape.

Activations for the show include Ramp models, who will compete with their catwalks this Thursday and a cultural festival Friday night.

 The dog race takes place Saturday morning and in the afternoon there will be the horse race, which will be followed by a price giving gala dinner in the evening.

An encounter on Sunday between Blue Stars against the team that wins between Ncojane strikers and Skoon Boys will bring down the curtain for the Ghanzi 2018 Agricultural Show themed, Sustainable Economic Diversification Beyond 50 Years Through Green Technology. ENDS
