Police in Bobonong are investigating case in which a 42-year-old male police officer is alleged to have defiled a 15-year-old girl over the weekend in Bobonong.
Bobonong Police Station commander, Superintendent Paul Seoko confirmed in an interview that one of their servicemen was in custody in connection with a case of defilement they are investigating.
Supt. Seoko said the police officer was arrested on the night of June 24 following a report by the victim’s parents.
The victim is said to be a Form One student in one of the secondary schools in Bobonong.
He said investigations into the matter was still at an infancy stage and upon their completion, the suspect would be brought before the Magistrate Court to answer for a case of defiling a person under the age of 16.
The station commander added that rape was a heinous offence and police the commissioner has decided to suspend the alleged police officer from duty pending investigations into the matter.
“The police commissioner has decided to relinquish him his duties effective June 26, so that investigations into the matter are carried out smoothly,” he said.
Supt. Seoko further explained that according to preliminary investigations, the officer met the young girl in Bobonong and took her into his car and drove out of the village in the afternoon where he is alleged to have raped her and later dropped her off near her home.
The station commander commended the parents of the victim for reporting the case to the police, and appealed to other parents to do the same when they suspect such cases of defilement. ENDS
