Francistown school donates house

26 Jun 2018

Francistown Senior Secondary school (FSS) staff and students recently donated a two-roomed house to a Shashemooke resident, Ms Kelemogile Setlhare and her children.

Speaking at the official handing over of the house recently, Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, also MP for Tonota, Mr Thapelo Olopeng applauded all who took part in making the project a success.

He said it was commendable for Batswana to continue and live the legacy of caring for others as espoused by the former president Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama.

“It is good that even with the new administration we are still a compassionate nation which gives to the less fortunate members of our community,” he said.

He further advised Ms Setlhare against temptation to sell the house even when faced with challenges.

He said she should instead appreciate the donation as a valuable gift to be enjoyed by her children for years to come.

Giving a brief description of the project, FSS school head, Mr Sephaniah Tabona said the project started in 2015 with teachers, students and parents contributing money towards the project, and later engaged the business community to augment funds towards the project.

Mr Tabona said the project involved students as a way to help mould them into empathetic adults who will be motivated to help the underprivileged members of their communities.

The needy family was identified with the help of Tonota sub-council. ENDS
