Police yet to crack family murder case

26 Jun 2018

Molepolole police say they are yet to make a break-through in a case in which three family members of Ntlolengwae ward were found dead on June 22.

Molepolole Acting Station Commander, Assistant Superintendent Salome Segale confirmed that the incident was brought to their attention on June 22 evening by the only remaining member of the family (son) after he arrived home on the fateful day.

A man (55) and his wife (47) together with their 22-year-old son were on June 22, found dead at their home and are suspected to have been killed by unknown assailants on June 21.

Ms Segale said they suspected the three to have died due to suffocation as they were found with their faces covered with blankets and clothing, while their hands were tied at the back with ropes.

The police chief is therefore appealing to members of the public to help with information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.

The 57-year-old male deceased person was a driver with the Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security under Corporate Services based in Molepolole.

Meanwhile, the surviving son told BOPA he was still in shock from the traumatic incident and the state in which he discovered his parents and brother.

He confirmed to have arrived from Gaborone on June 22 in the afternoon and found the main door to the living room not locked.

“I got frightened as things were scattered in the house and quickly went outside calling for my mother before I used the back door to enter the house I spotted my mother lying on the floor,”  the visibly traumatised son revealed.

A neighbour said he was one of the four people to witnessed the horrific incident after the son came running calling for help.

“We came running trying to establish what could have happened and the son ordered us to enter the house and see for ourselves where we found the three bodies lying on the floor in the same room with their faces covered with clothes and mouths sealed with sellotape,” she said.

She confirmed to have last seen the deceased mother the previous day after evening prayers. ENDS
