Poor health compromises work results

25 Jun 2018

The Botswana Guides Association (BOGA) chairperson Mr Kenson Kgaga says poor health compromises work results.

Mr Kgaga, also councillor for Boro/Senonnori in Maun who was officiating at the Ngami District Wellness in Maun recently, encouraged government employees participating in the event to make exercising a daily lifestyle.

He said government had realised the importance of good health in the work place hence the introduction of wellness programmes and initiatives at workplaces.

Mr Kgaga therefore implored public servants to use wellness programmes and desist from undesirable health habits such as alcohol abuse.

He also encouraged workers to engage in a spiritual journey which he said helped address some life challenges.

Mr Kgaga also said employees should guard against social media addiction.

Kgosi Rodgers Marumo of Thito Ward said there was an increase in the District Wellness participation every year which was a good development.

He however said some people were only active during the competitions but failed to maintain a healthy lifestyle throughout their lives.

Kgosi Marumo said people should adopt a healthy lifestyle through regular exercises saying some gym equipment was underutilised at Maun Sports Complex.

A family physician from Ngami District Health Management Team, Dr Billy Selamelame said exercising helped curb Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) also known as lifestyles diseases as Diabetes, Hypertension, Obesity, back pains and mental diseases or depression.

Dr Selamelame said some risk factors as high alcohol consumption, tobacco consumption and physical inactivity contributed to NCDs. ENDS
