Mangole Batshu attend ACP

Members of Parliament for Mochudi West Mr Gilbert Mangole and Mr Edwin Batshu for Nkange are in Brussels, Belgium for the 50th Session of the ACP Parliamentary Assembly (ACPPA) and 35th Session of the African, Caribbean and Pacific-European Union Joint Parliamentary Assembly (ACP-EU JPA).

A press release from the National Assembly state that the meeting, which runs June 13-20, is expected to discuss and consider among others amendments and adoption of draft reports on ACP-EU relations post-Cotonou: a strong parliamentary dimension.

It explains that discussions will also be on social and environmental consequences of urbanisation, particularly the sound management of industrial and domestic waste in ACP countries as well as the impact of the illegal trade in phytosanitary products, seeds and other agricultural inputs on ACP countries’ economics.

“The Assembly will further exchange views on the global compact of migration, the political situation in ACP and EU Members States and the political situation in ACP and EU members States and Economic Partnership Agreements,” it states.

The release says in addition, two urgent topics will be debated and wrapped up by resolutions and they are urgency of new measures to fights international terrorism and humanitarian crisis in South Sudan. Botswana is currently a member of the ACP-EU Standing Committee on Social Affairs and the Environment.

The legislators are expected back home on June 22.  ENDS
