Pick n Pay stores across the country continue to invest in sports by unearthing talent in sport.
The Pick n Pay Jwaneng store brought together 14 primary schools in the name of football to play under the inaugural Pick n Pay under 15 soccer tournament in Jwaneng.
The schools, which were from Jwaneng and surrounding villages, battled it out for the trophy and other goodies, courtesy of suppliers and partners of Pick n Pay.
According to the Jwaneng Pick n Pay Store manager, Galekgathege Segaise, all the stores around the country conducted a seven weeks competition, where customers had to pick two schools in the region to compete in the tournament.
“We hosted 14 primary schools and at the end of the tournament, each team received a full soccer kit branded with their school logo,” explained Segaise .
He added that a tournament of that nature was also held in Francistown, Selebi Phikwe, Gaborone and Lobatse, where a total of 140 schools benefitted from the initiative.
He said the aim was to give back to the communities, particularly to children through sport development.
Segaise said the brand would continue to come up with store promotions that would change the lives of communities they operated in.
Meanwhile, Sese Primary School emerged winners of the inaugural tournament by scoring five goals against Teemane Primary school through Seatile Bome.
Bome was eventually honoured for being top goal scorer, after scoring nine goals in the tournament. Goal keeper of the tournament was Motheo Baruti of Teemane Primary School.
Each player from the winning team and their runner-ups were given medals, an overall team trophy and hampers from suppliers which included snacks and toiletry. ENDS
