Department of Civil and National Registration’s regional superintendent for Kgalagadi region, Ms Modiro Moalosi has encouraged Batswana to renew identity cards on time. 

In an interview, Ms Moalosi said there were 6 235 identity cards, which would expire on December in Kgalagadi region. 

She revealed that their records had shown that already 909 had expired and 5 326 would have expires by December adding that there were 351 uncollected cards in Kgalagadi South region. 

“We intend to lobby people to renew their cards three months before expiry date to avoid the renewed cards staying long in our offices because most only come for collection on the last day,” she said. 

In order to deal with the challenges of late renewals and uncollected cards, she said the region had come up with some strategies such as intensified field trips and establishment of roving teams. She pointed out that field trips would enable officers to tour the district and meet residents in kgotlas to assist those who could not manage to go to Tsabong. 

Furthermore, she said they would ensure that during their tours, they encourage residents to register and surrender the documents of their deceased family members. 

She highlighted that they plan to cover almost all areas in their region in an operation she termed ‘clean all’.“We will be working with village authorities such as dikgosi and village development committee members in identifying those with uncollected and expired cards,” Ms Moalosi said.

Also, she said they would workers through wellness meetings. 

In addition, she said teams would be able to issue death certificates on the spot.

Moalosi said the department would also avail a checklist of what is expected from customers when renewing the cards or making new ones. The operation, which has already started is said to be doing well in areas such as Struizendam and Kokotsha, which have been covered already. END
