Maun police investigate suicide

Maun police are investigating a case in which a 43-year-old man of Matshwane ward in Maun was found hanging from the rafters of a house in the same ward.
Deputy Officer Commanding for District No.5, Superintendent John Kelebeng, said in an interview that the deceased is said to have inquired about his girlfriend’s whereabouts and was informed that she was attending a church service.
He said that upon arrival from church, the girlfriend discovered the deceased hanging from the rafters of their house. The incident happened on Sunday.
Supt Kelebeng said the deceased was then rushed to Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital where he was certified dead. He said it was not known what could have led to the man taking his own life, as he did not leave a message.
The deceased worked in one of the hotels in Maun. Meanwhile, Supt Kelebeng said a four-year-old boy of Bosarwa ward in Nokaneng, who went missing on Monday, was found the following morning.
He said the boy and his eight-year-old brother were sent to fetch water from the village water tank at around 5pm when the incident happened.
Supt Kelebeng further said that after an unsuccessful search, the elder brother returned home at around 8pm to alert the parents about the brother’s disappearance.
He said the parents immediately alerted the police, which led to a search party being dispatched, but it was shortly discontinued due to nightfall. He said the search was resumed in the morning of Tuesday and the boy was found at around 9am 20 kilometres away from the village, walking in the bush.
The boy, he said was rushed to Nokaneng clinic, where he is in a stable condition.
In another case, Supt Kelebeng said a 31-year-old man of Sedie ward in Maun was admitted at Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital after ingesting a poisonous substance on June 8.
Supt Kelebeng said the man is also a suspect in an office break-in and theft case that took place at Thamalakane River Lodge in Sexaxa village on June 7, where thieves or a thief got away with cash amounting to P450 and some US dollars.
He said upon the police discovering the stolen goods in his house, the suspect snatched the substance and drank it.
Supt Kelebeng said the suspect was rushed to the hospital where he was admitted under police surveillance. Ends
