Kgalagadi Breweries Limited (KBL)has not compensated one of its retired employee who suffered hearing impairment due to noise pollution for the duration of his employment.
The company according to Minister of Employment ,Labour Productivity and Skills Development Mr Tshenolo Mabeo delayed in compensating the employee because Botswana Life Insurance(BIC) “claimed that the employee was not eligible for compensation.”
However the minister said hearing loss was paid under the workers compensation Act 47:03. He said his ministry has been communicating with KBL to pay the employee through letter correspondence and telephone conversations.
He furthermore said to date the company has not responded to the letter but telephone conversations between the office of the compensation commissioner and KBL have always ended up with the company promising to get back to the commissioner’s office. Mr Mabeo assured Parliament that his ministry will make a follow up on the matter.
The minister was responding to Member of Parliament Mr Samuel Rantuana who had wanted to know why Kgalagadi Breweries Limited was delaying to compensate their retired employee who suffered hearing impairment due to noise pollution for the duration of his employment.
He also wanted the minister to state when the employee would be paid. ENDS
