13 Jun 2018
The Assistant Minister of Basic Education says Motsumi Junior Secondary School received full cyclic maintenance in the 2013/14 financial year and is due another cyclic maintenance in 2019/20 financial year.
Answering a question in Parliament, Mr Thato Kwerepe said in addition, funds amounting to P500 000 have been disbursed to the school to attend to power reticulation issues and to maintain the cold room.
He noted that the scope of the cyclic maintenance project would include but not limited to academic section (classrooms, science labs, kitchen, Design and Technology lab, Home Economics labs and school fence) as well as staff houses.
The scope of the cyclic maintenance he said was estimated at P9 million.
Mr Kwerepe said the school would be maintained in the third phase of Economic Stimulus Programme of 2019/20 financial year.
He further said the school also recently received minor maintenance works amounting to P174 000 and the project was on defects liability period.
Mr Kwerepe further informed Parliament that the Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing Development had evaluated bids for the works tender for renovation and maintenance of Letlhakane senior secondary school. However, the award has been queried by one of the bidders and the matter was currently before the courts.
He said judgement on the matter was expected in September 2018 and thereafter the commencement date of the project could be determined.
“The scope of works to be done at Letlhakane senior secondary school includes refurbishment of administration and support buildings, academic buildings, ablutions, staff houses and student hostels.
The budget allocated is P56 million for all specified works,” he concluded.
Member of Parliament for Boteti East Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked the minister to update Parliament on the progress of maintenance due to be done at Motsumi Junior Secondary School and Letlhakane Senior Secondary School, the scope and budget and commencement date of the project. ENDS
